Cancer biology

Guglielmo Militello has a dual background in cell biology and philosophy. As a research scientist, his research consists in investigating the biological processes (metabolic, signalling, regulatory) underlying cancer stem cells and the cells of origin of cancer (stem, progenitor, and differentiated cells) and how such processes can be exploited in translational research.

As a philosopher, his research explores how living systems achieve unity across cells, organisms, and collectives, with implications for evolutionary theory and biomedicine. He is the author of Functional Integration: A Theoretical Enquiry into the Biological Unit of the Individual, published by Springer.
